Before: a retired jockey starting from zero
Ramón is a retired thoroughbred jockey and a Hall of Fame rider. He wanted a show about the real stories behind success: people from horse racing, business, sports and beyond talking about resilience and the turning points in their careers.
He had never made a podcast. By his own account it was well outside his comfort zone, and he knew he would need help with the production side. A friend recommended he talk to Icons, even though his show had nothing to do with real estate.
What changed: production support and one person to ask
"Although what I’m doing, the podcast that I’m doing, doesn’t have anything to do with real estate, I was open and I listen to them and talk and this has been incredible."
- Production handled for him: Ramón records, and the Icons team takes care of everything else.
- Support across the whole show: help from every area of the podcast, not just editing.
- A person to ask: someone who helps at every step and answers his questions as they come up.
"You will be connected with somebody who will help you in every step of the way and answer any and every question that you may have."
After: a launched show that is gaining traction
Among Champions is live on Apple Podcasts and YouTube, with guests from horse racing and well beyond it. Ramón calls the launch a success and says the show is gaining traction.
"I am happy that we launched and this has been a success. We are gaining traction."
What agents can take from it
- Starting from zero is normal. Ramón had no podcast experience. What he brought was his story and his conversations.
- Get production help before you launch. He knew early that production was the part he couldn’t do alone, and he didn’t try to.
- Have one person to ask. A named contact who answers every question keeps a first-time host moving.
