Podcast Cost Calculator for Real Estate Agents

What does a podcast really cost you over a year? Compare doing it yourself, hiring a freelance editor, and done-for-you production, counting both the cash you spend and the hours you'd otherwise spend selling.

Your numbers

Fields tagged Assumption are starting guesses. Replace them with your own.

2 is every other week, 4 is weekly.

Format

Switching format updates the assumptions below that you haven't edited.

The value of an hour you could spend prospecting or with clients.

Your hours per episode

Booking the guest, prep, recording, editing, publishing, promoting.

You still book, record, publish and promote.

Mostly the recording itself.

Mic, headphones, and a camera and light for video. Counted in every option.

Used for DIY and freelancer options.

Line-by-line breakdown

Twelve-month cost by option
Over 12 monthsDIYFreelancerDone-for-you

Done-for-you uses Icons' public starting prices: Launchpad from $497 one time and Ongoing Production from $621 a month, billed every 28 days (13 billing cycles in a year). Cadence and package change the final price; a bi-weekly show runs at a reduced rate, so a weekly show starts higher. See what's included.

How to use it

  1. Enter how many episodes you plan to publish each month and pick video or audio only.
  2. Put in what an hour of your time is worth. If you're unsure, divide last year's net income by the hours you worked.
  3. Adjust the hours and prices tagged Assumption to match quotes you've actually received.
  4. Read the table: "cash cost" is money out of pocket, "total" adds the value of your hours.

How it works

For each option the calculator adds up 12 months:

  • Time cost = your hours per episode × episodes per month × 12 × your hourly value.
  • DIY cash = equipment + hosting × 12.
  • Freelancer cash = equipment + hosting × 12 + editing price × episodes per year.
  • Done-for-you cash = equipment + Launchpad ($497) + Ongoing Production ($621 × 13 billing cycles).

The default hours, prices and budgets are our starting guesses, not industry averages. Your own quotes and your own calendar beat any default. The done-for-you figures are starting prices only and don't include hosting, because publishing is part of the Ongoing Production scope; confirm the details on a call. Nothing you type leaves your browser.
